Avanos has thrown red clay from the Kızılırmak river for about four thousand years. These 15 workshops put you at the wheel rather than behind a rope, and they differ on how long you get and whether your pot is fired and posted on.
At a family-run workshop in Avanos, Davut, Hasan, or Mustafa guides you through the pottery wheel, shares local craft stories, and helps you shape a cup, bowl, vase, or another small piece. The 45-minute visit includes tea or coffee, photos, and a handmade keepsake.

Spend 2.5 hours with a private car and driver visiting a women’s carpet cooperative and a family-run pottery workshop in Cappadocia. Watch local artisans work, learn how Red River clay becomes ceramics, and try pottery yourself. Mehmet is one named driver associated with the experience.

“This was a great experience. I’ve done a pottery workshop and didn’t enjoy it in the past, but the experience here was totally different. Loved it. Major downside I didn’t foresee, you don’t get to take your work with you because it takes rather long to dry, their method uses ambient temperature drying and they don’t go the firing route. The pottery class part do it only covered maybe 25% of our time at this venue. The rest of the time was spent in their ceramics gallery. Quite beautiful. Lovely experience. Place was easy to find on maps.”
Visit Ömürlü SeramikYeni in Avanos for a short pottery demonstration, Turkish tea, and a chance to shape clay with a professional instructor. You will hear about local designs, pottery traditions, and Cappadocia culture, then return to the same workshop. The session is private for your group.

“The guy selling in store was beyond amazing and friendly , they were not expecting us and literally one minute of nothing like playing with dough nothing meaningful, I did pottery classes in many countries and that was the worst , would never recommend it . One minute class and main thing is going to shop and shopping which was not bad .”
